Who, what, why...

Michelle Scott was born Surrey in 1966 is the founder of UK clothing brand Pretty Eccentric. She was educated at Greenacre School for Girls in Banstead Surrey where she began customising her clothes. She was offered a place at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design but turned it down to pursue a music career and formed band UV Ray and gigged around some on Londons indi hot spots.

Her father owned a boutique in Clapham and during the 80's she honed her eye for the next big trend until she left in the late 1987 and moved to Nottinghill and joined the Burton Group (now the Arcadia Group) where she spent 7 years working her way up through the ranks of buying, merchandising teams.

In 1992 she joined Whistles where she was Head of Buying and Merchandising. Along her journey she stopped of at Harvey Nichols, Oasis and House of Fraser until in 2003 she moved across to the beauty industry and worked for the Body Shop where she had various role including UK Product Director and USA Marketing Director.

Her key initiatives at the Body Shop included: The'Be Beautiful Naturally' UAS store rebrand which in a slightly tweaked version was later rolled out across the globe and the creation of authoritive destination product power walls and product promotions which turned the UK business to profit, and paved the way for its sale to L'Oreal.

Always looking for her next creative outlet, her big passion for the arts and her own love of the canvas lead her to being Chairman, Arundel Gallery Trail, one of the longest running open house art trails in the UK. Here she represented over a 100 artists and makers including sculptors, painters, printers, ceramicists and jewelers and made the event a key date of the arts calendar.

In 2009 she launch Pretty Eccentric a quirky vintage fashion brand opening her first store in Brighton’s Lanes district. Her designs and carefully chosen collections were such a success a second store opened on the 1st years anniversary.
